Commercial Roof Inspection

Roof Inspection

Everyone knows how important it is to keep your business' roof properly maintained. But, we also understand how important it is to save money here and there, especially if we are just starting a new business or have high operating costs. When people want to cut down on expenses, roof issues are usually first to get booted out of the priority list. Roof Repair Squad, however, makes this a little easier and provides free roof inspections.

As one of the top roofing companies in the area, we are often asked the question, "can I do my own roof inspections?." The short answer is yes, you can do your own commercial or residential roof inspections. Should you? We wouldn't recommend it to anyone, as safety always comes first and heading up to your roof isn’t the safest adventure, especially on a commercial building. But It depends on what exactly you want to "inspect." If you want a more technical inspection, then you definitely want to hire a professional. But, if you go up there looking for obvious signs of damage, deterioration, rust, or to get rid of debris, then you can go right ahead. Just keep these next few steps in mind.

Top 4 Commercial Self-Inspection Tips.

  1. Safety Hazards.

The first and most important tip we can give you is to stay safe while you are up there. As you may already know, there are several known dangers in paying a visit to your roof. Be careful with the skylights, don't get too close to the edges, watch your steps over any compromised decking, and don’t go up when there is bad weather. If you want to inspect your own roof, you must be extra careful.

  1. Look for the smallest things.

You may not have the trained eyes our professionals have, but once you've complied with all the safety precautions, look around, get rid of any debris, unclog the drains, especially after rough weather conditions. Identify and fix any small problems. For larger ones, you can rely on the expert hands of Roof  Repair Squad.

  1. Check your warranty.

Before you go up to the roof, you may want to read the terms and conditions of the roof's warranty. It clearly specifies who is and who isn't allowed to be fixing anything up there.

  1. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Lastly, you may want to fresh up your knowledge of OSHA safety regulations. If you are an untrained professional, no matter how big or small the fixes are, once you start working on your roof, OSHA's rules will come to play, and you'll have to deal with all the bureaucracy that it entails.

As you can see, performing your own commercial or residential roof self-inspections aren't an easy task to take on. While you can still do it, there are several factors that you need to keep in mind. Hiring a professional to inspect the roof should not be seen as an expense but as an investment to ensure your roof’s future. Should it damage or break apart during a storm, and your entire business will be affected.
