Sadly, the first reaction of most homeowners have is to ignore them, especially at the beginning when they are still small and hardly noticeable. This is a terrible mistake. Water stains on your ceiling should not be ignored under any circumstances, regardless of their size. If you do not address this situation immediately, you'll be creating the perfect environment for mold to grow and spread through your ceiling. Eventually, the structure will deteriorate and come crashing down.

Water Stains

Have you noticed weird stains on your ceiling?

Sadly, the first reaction of most homeowners have is to ignore them, especially at the beginning when they are still small and hardly noticeable. This is a terrible mistake. Water stains on your ceiling should not be ignored under any circumstances, regardless of their size. If you do not address this situation immediately, you'll be creating the perfect environment for mold to grow and spread through your ceiling. Eventually, the structure will deteriorate and come crashing down.

Water stains on your ceiling are usually a direct consequence of a much larger problem in your home.  Here are three reasons why you should never turn a blind eye to water stains ever again:

⦁ Water Stains are indicative of problems with your Roof.

If you find water stains anywhere on your ceiling, it means that there are underlying issues with your roof. Firstly, there could be small cracks allowing water to filter through, and every time it rains or snow, water stains show up. In other cases, the situation is way more dangerous than you can imagine, and the entire roof could be about to fall down.

The best thing you can do as soon as you see these stains is to call a professional roofing company and request a roof inspection. They could recommend a quick repair or a complete replacement, depending on the extent of the damage. Don't worry, insurance is an option that is often considered.

⦁ Water Stains could be the result of issues with the plumbing.

If, after a thorough inspection of your roof, the roofing contractors didn't find any problems, that's definitely good news, but it doesn't mean you are in the clear just yet.

Water stains could be the result of a broken pipe somewhere inside the ceiling. If so, you need to call the pros immediately to conduct an inspection. The plumber will identify the issue and fix it. Then you can hire your local roofing company to repair your ceiling, to prevent mold and other things from growing and spreading.

⦁ Whatever the case might be, water stains grow dangerously quickly.

The reason why it is a mistake to ignore water stains in your ceiling is that they grow quickly. What starts like a small dot in the kitchen will soon spread through the dining room or any other adjacent room. When that happens, it means the structural integrity of the roof has been compromised, putting everything under it in danger, including your family. It is possible that this kind of water damage may not be covered by your insurance policy.

As soon as you notice water stains on your ceiling, you need to pick up the phone and call your local roofing company ASAP. They will take a look and determine which cause of action is needed.
